Katelynn's First Birthday

It seemed like ages ago, but one year ago today Katelynn Joy Long came into the world. Oh how little did we know on our way to the hospital a year ago how much our lives would be changed once we returned home as three.

Katelynn's First Cupcake

To celbreate Katelynn's first birthday, Erin made cupcakes. We frosted one up, and eagerly placed it in front of her. Much to my surprise, she approached the cupcake with much trepidation. This was unlike the cherrios, cheese, bit size stars, and other finger food that Mom and Dad had placed in front of her. She briefly touched the chocolate icing and brought her finger to her mouth. A look of intrige came across her face, but she remained uncertain. In an effort to encourage her, Dad took her hand and pressed it into the chocolate icing. The little hand flew into her mouth, and her eye's lite up and she looked at us as if to say, "You mean you're not going to stop me?"

She was getting braver, but still didn't know what to make of this new treat. Several times, she brought her little right arm down, almost touching the cupcake, and then pulled it back. In yet another attempt to encourage her, Dad broke up half of the cupcake, and fed a small piece to her. Once again, her eyes lit up and she needed no further convincing. The next thing we knew, she had grabbed the larger unbroken half of the cupcake and shoved it into her mouth now covered with icing.

I have been with Katelynn now for 12 months, and in all of that time, I have not seen this little girl as messy as I have seen tonight. After the last morsel of cupcake had been consumed, it was straight to the bath for this little girl.

Next week Katelynn will be off to Indiana with us for her big birthday party with her Indiana family. We'll take lots of pictures, and I hope that she puts on as good a show for them with her little cake as she did for us tonight. And, as always, look for a post shortly afterward!
