Houston, We have a walker!

Guess what Katelynn did last night! I was sitting on the floor a few feet away from her playing with some of her toys in an attempt to get her interested in the toys and not interested in stuff she shouldn't be playing with. Matt was on the phone with a friend from back home. I was chatting with Katelynn and she turned around to face me, took a step back from the couch and stood there for a minute or so. I had this feeling that something was about to happen, so I got Matt's attention and then Katelynn started kind of flaying her arms about and got this big smile on her face. Then she took 2 or 3 steps towards me. We both were watching her and we were so excited that we got to see her take her first independent steps!! Matt thought it would happen when he wasn't around like if she was at home with me or at daycare. But it didn't happen that way! We both got to see her! And oh, she was soooo proud of herself, but she wouldn't do it again. Everytime we would try to entice her to walk, she'd end up on the floor crawling to me mostly. "Nope, crawling is more efficient for me!"

I know...everyone keeps telling us that the life as we know it is now over. But really, we want her to become independent. We're looking forward to the day when she's running after her cousins in the big hugging goodbye ritual. (Our nephew and niece have to have a running start from the utility room at my parents. They run from the utility room, through the kitchen, dining room and living room and then leap into your arms for a big hug before they leave for the night.) We look forward to her talking and every milestone along the way. It's an adventure for all of us. And we're along for the ride! :)
